October 2022: Take Me To School

Do For One's core value of Dignity means that everyone has creative, relational, and spiritual capacities.

Advocates will often encourage their Partner's growth in these capacities. Conversely, Partners will often encourage their Advocate's growth.

Gene and Jason are an example of both.

See below for a quotation from Jason and a poem by Gene about their friendship.

With gratitude,
Andrew

Gene and Jason

Gene (left) and Jason (right) going for one of their regular walks.

Jason says, "Without Gene ever realizing it. He ‘takes me to school’ regularly and helps me grow in Christ, as a friend and as a man. So glad to have Gene in my life. We all need a Gene in our lives.”

Gene writes,

I have a Do For One friend.

Our personalities smoothly blend.

We take time to pray.

We have so much to say.

We have our favorite Astoria Park seats.

We weekly meet.

We so enjoy our frequent talks.

They dramatically help both of our Christian

    walks.

We lovingly hold each other accountable.

We encourage each other,

That nothing is insurmountable.

He's like a 2nd brother.

Jason graciously prods me to go to church.

If I don't go he says he will organize a missing

    person's search.
