September 2023: Word(s) on the Street

A day trip to Beacon.

A sleepover.

A visit to the hospital.

A baptism...

These are just a few distinct moments that Do For One Advocate and Partners are sharing this year.

Below are some recent favorite "words on the street" of New York City, where cross-class relationships made possible by Do For One are thriving.

Word(s) On The Street

This has never felt like volunteering for me. Matthew has quickly become one of my best friends in the city.

She’s like a sister I never had! And guess what…she even invited me to sleepover her apartment! Oh it’s gonna be amazing all right.

Jeff and his wife invited me to their church. I started going there, I felt welcomed. I felt happy. I decided to get baptized there. I was scared to go in the water, it was ice cold! Jeff was there, I trusted him. I felt refreshed, I felt positive. I don’t feel depressed or anxious anymore. I feel happy. I’m sleeping better now. I feel like a new person.

I had a really nice time in Beacon with Bunny and Caroline. We ate in a roundhouse. There were waterfalls. But at night it was lit up and so beauty-full.

Support Us Monthly

Do For One addresses the need for advocacy for those who lead lives of isolation, having none or few friends or supporters to represent their interests.

GIVE MONTHLY: Any amount ($10, $20, etc.) makes a big difference for a small, grassroots organization like ours.

  • $40 per month covers travel for Do For One staff to recruit Partners living in isolation in nursing homes in their efforts to recruit a voluntary Advocate.

  • $100 per month covers food for a monthly community gathering where relationship matches are supported and made all year round.

PRAY for Partners who are currently in the hospital. Pray for miraculous healing over their bodies so they can return safely home. Pray for their Advocates who are visiting them and supporting them through hard times.
