Counterfeit Friendship

Counterfeit Friendship

What AI companionship tells us about our actual relationships

In an age when loneliness is rising and technology promises easy substitutes, AI “companions” are being offered as friends. But machines can only simulate connection—they cannot love, commit, or truly know us. Drawing from his work with Do For One and Lead For One, Andrew Oliver will show how the limits of AI provide a striking contrast that helps us recognize the indispensable nature of our actual relationships—and why we must double down on what makes us deeply human: the way we relate to God and to one another.

Together, we’ll explore why real, freely-given relationships are irreplaceable in an age of artificial substitutes—and how Do For One and Lead For One are helping people step out of isolation into true belonging.

This event is offered from a Judeo-Christian point of view, but all perspectives are welcome in the discussion.
